Celebrating 6 months... With food of course!
And a whole lot of snow...
After our day trip to Mt Baker for snowshoeing and an avalanche awareness class, we were absolutely exhausted when we got home, and were in bed by 8:30. So we waited until Sunday to go out and do a little tasty celebrating.
We decided to go out for for lunch to celebrate at Mambo Italiano. This awning seems to just barely pop out of the brick building - you could miss it if you blinked. But you wouldn't miss it - it's too good.
They sell fresh baked baguettes everyday for $4.
Mambo is located in the historic Fairhaven and this inside is, as Ross puts it, wonderfully cozy but not space efficient - exactly what you would expect from a historic red brick building.
We hadn't been there for lunch before, which has a slightly different menu, so we perused the menu.
And of course ordered our absolute all time favorite beer - Mac & Jacks African Amber. You can only get this on tap at bars, and only in the northwest.
Then we started out with a few slices of those house-made baguettes with oil and balsamic vinegar.
The classic Caesar salad really hit the spot for me. Sometimes simple is the best.
Ross had a bowl of their French onion soup with melted Gruyère cheese - it was incredible.
For the main course I went with my old standby Italian favorite - Fettuccine Alfredo; cream, butter, garlic and cheese melted all over noodles. It was wonderful, though I honestly think I liked Ross' sandwich better.
A BBQ Chicken Panini with pineapple, roasted red onions, smoked mozzarella and cheddar.
Overall, we have it 2 thumbs up and big smile - because they are also an independent restaurant that sources their food supplies locally.
Ross says high-5's are not just for sports or kids at school/camp; they are also for being married for 6 months and eating amazing food.
What a great weekend - I even managed to get some homework done if you can believe that! One more week of the quarter and I'm home free for a couple weeks! Hope you all had a great weekend too.
Yeah for anniversaries! Looks like you guys had a lot of fun!
